Shark Fishing

Shark fishing is on the rise on the west coast of Ireland and Blacksod Bay is no exception. Blue sharks and Porbeagle sharks frequent the waters off Blacksod Bay from end of June to October with August and September being the peak season.

Shark fishing in Blacksod Bay offers an exciting adventure targeting Blue sharks and Porbeagle sharks from June to October, with August and September as the peak months. We create our own Rubby Dubby using fresh mackerel, fish oil, and bran, and use whole fresh mackerel as bait. All fishing is catch and release, and tagging is performed as part of the Irish Shark Tagging Programme for scientific research.

Rods and tackle are provided. If the weather is good, bring sun cream and a sun hat. Always be prepared for rain, this is the West Coast of Ireland. Let the skipper know if you are unwell.

What a brilliant trip to Blacksod and the lighthouse today. It was a great visit out and to get to see the lighthouse and it’s history and more history about the area. The lighthouse is fascinating with how it works and the role of the weather station in WW2. The lobster was an unexpected bonus!! The boat trip was fantastic thanks to all for making such a wonderful family trip out and especially to Jed for skippering the boat and being great at making the day extra special for the kids!

Had the most amazing boat trip today with Jed to Blacksod. Fantastic trip across the bay to to meet the wonderful character Jerry Sweeney who was a fountain of knowledge regarding this history of Blacksod. The kids had a ball, driving the boat was the highlight of their holiday. Will definitely book again when we are back in Achill.

Thanks for a lovely fishing trip this evening. Perfect weather conditions and we caught lots of Mackerel and a few Pollock. Jed was a great Captain who went out of his way to make sure we all caught some fish! I woud highly recommend doing a trip with Wild West Boat Tours!
