2 Hour Sea Safari Overview

Departure Point: Blacksod Pier
Boat: Noirin Bán
Duration: 2 Hour Experience

Departing from Blacksod Pier, this two hour Sea Safari explores the rich marine life and striking coastline of Blacksod Bay. The tour passes Blacksod Lighthouse, the historic granite quarry, and the coastal village of Surgeview, offering fantastic photo opportunities along the way.

This relaxed pace allows you to fully take in the scenery while keeping watch for wildlife both on land and at sea.

Wildlife Encounters

A highlight of the safari is a stop at Duvillaun Mór Island, where you can observe seals resting on the rocks and seabirds nesting along the cliffs. Species commonly seen include gannets, storm petrels, Manx shearwaters, and Arctic terns.

There is also a strong chance of spotting dolphins, and during the season, even basking sharks as they feed in these rich waters.

Island Views

The tour continues towards the Inishkea Islands, pausing offshore to admire the picturesque villages of Inishkea North and Inishkea South from the water. As this is a two hour experience, there is no landing on the islands, allowing you to enjoy the views comfortably from the boat while learning about their history and past way of life.

What a brilliant trip to Blacksod and the lighthouse today. It was a great visit out and to get to see the lighthouse and it’s history and more history about the area. The lighthouse is fascinating with how it works and the role of the weather station in WW2. The lobster was an unexpected bonus!! The boat trip was fantastic thanks to all for making such a wonderful family trip out and especially to Jed for skippering the boat and being great at making the day extra special for the kids!

Had the most amazing boat trip today with Jed to Blacksod. Fantastic trip across the bay to to meet the wonderful character Jerry Sweeney who was a fountain of knowledge regarding this history of Blacksod. The kids had a ball, driving the boat was the highlight of their holiday. Will definitely book again when we are back in Achill.

Thanks for a lovely fishing trip this evening. Perfect weather conditions and we caught lots of Mackerel and a few Pollock. Jed was a great Captain who went out of his way to make sure we all caught some fish! I woud highly recommend doing a trip with Wild West Boat Tours!
